Who is responsible for your information?
Alex Dean, trading as Building Energy Surveyors, is the data controller for personal information handled through this website and in the delivery of surveying and consultancy services. Contact: hello@energy-surveyors.com or 07554 597207.

- Property address, tenure, access details and information relevant to the requested service.
- Survey notes, photographs, video, measurements, reports and project records.
- Client, contractor or housing-provider contact details where needed to deliver an instruction.

The website enquiry form
The form processes the entered information in your browser and opens your email application with a draft message. The website does not upload or store the form contents. Information is received only when you choose to send that email.
Why we use the information
Information is used to respond to enquiries, prepare quotations, arrange access, deliver and document services, communicate findings, manage safety and quality, meet legal or professional obligations, administer accounts and establish or defend legal claims.
Lawful bases
Depending on the circumstances, processing is necessary to take steps before or perform a contract, to meet a legal obligation, or for legitimate interests in operating a surveying business, keeping appropriate professional records, ensuring safety and responding to clients. Consent is used where it is specifically required and can be withdrawn.
Special category and sensitive information
Please do not send medical records, financial details or other unnecessary sensitive information through a general enquiry. If information about health or vulnerability is genuinely needed to plan safe access or resident-centred work, only relevant information should be shared and it will be handled with additional care and an appropriate legal basis.
Who information may be shared with
Information may be shared only where needed with the instructing client, property owner or manager, occupants, appointed laboratories, relevant project professionals, insurers, professional advisers, IT and email providers, or public authorities where legally required. A survey report is provided to the instructing client and should not be forwarded more widely than necessary.
Photographs, video and drone data
Capture is limited to the agreed purpose as far as reasonably practicable. Incidental personal information is avoided or minimised, and outputs are shared only with relevant recipients. Marketing use is separate from survey evidence and requires an appropriate permission or other lawful basis.
Retention and security
Reasonable technical and organisational measures are used to protect records. Information is retained only as long as needed for the enquiry, contract, professional record-keeping, insurance, tax or legal purposes, then securely deleted or anonymised. Different records may require different retention periods.
International services
Some website, email or technology providers may process information outside the UK. Where this occurs, appropriate contractual or legal safeguards are expected from the provider. This website currently loads fonts from Google, which means your browser may connect to Google when a page is opened.
Google Analytics and your choices
If you accept analytics, we use Google Analytics 4 to measure page visits and actions such as quote links, telephone links, email links and preparing an enquiry email. Preparing an email does not confirm that it was sent. Google Analytics may process browser and device information and uses cookies to distinguish visits. We do not send enquiry form contents, names, email addresses, telephone numbers or property details to Analytics. Advertising features are disabled.
Analytics is not loaded until you accept. You can reject analytics and continue using the website, or change your choice using Analytics preferences in the footer. Your preference is stored in your browser for up to six months. Withdrawing consent stops future analytics collection in that browser. Google may process analytics information outside the UK. See Google’s privacy policy for its data handling.
Your rights
Depending on the circumstances, you may ask for access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection or portability of your personal information, or withdraw consent. Contact hello@energy-surveyors.com. You also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
